Well this is the first time I have ever written a blog. So here goes.
I am a rocker from way back and have written songs and played in bands over the past thirty years.
Anyway last december I heard that Molly Meldrum almost killed himself when he fell off a ladder.
He ended up in hospital with a coma and multiple head injuries and broken bones.
So I wrote a song as a tribute to the bloke to acknowledge the fact that he really is an Aussie Music legend.
And put it on youtube

I didnt think anything else about it. Anyway the next thing The Herald Sun in Melbourne rings up and wants to do a story. So I said OK. Once again thought nothing of it. Well the story ended up on the entertainment section next to Guy Sebastion. A reporter from The surf coast times ran a story. Also a reporter from the age and Forte Magazine.
Also the ABC regional radio aired the song on drive time. It just went crazy for a couple of days. So I thought well maybe I'd better put it down on a CD. So I did. "I am what I am" - Steve Thew The next thing I was contacted by a bloke who knew Molly really well. He said that Molly had heard the song and that he wanted a copy of the CD. So I sent him a signed copy.
He came back and said that he was honoured that somebody had written a song about him. From google nobody had done that before. What a real buzz. As everybody knows he's back up and interviewing and is almost back to his old self. I cant help feeling that music heals people. I was told that Molly enjoyed the fact that the lyrics were about some things even he had forgotten about. Anyway I am having a CD launch in August in Melbourne.
Wouldn't it be great if Molly turned up. Here's hoping.

    Thanks Rod.
I really like the style of your blog process. The articles are interesting and informative.
"And also the forum for that matter".
One thing I did want to say was that I saw an article in the Melbiourne age this morning Fri 6th July 2012,
about "The St Kilda live community". I hope that this continues as we need the live element
of music to keep going. It really is the backbone of where the bands and duos and solos come from.
Not everything is about online or digital downloads. You've got to be able to feel the atmosphere.
I play a lot of gigs and it's the audience feedback that I get my jollies from.
They might say your good, great, clap, dance and cheer or boo. But it's fantastic.
Early in the 90s I lived in South Yarra and my son and I would go to see all sorts of bands
in South Yarra, Grafton St and St Kilda. One for the records. I remember going to see a young band
regularly in Auckland New Zealand in 1974. They were incredible and just starting out. I also
remember saying to a mate these guys are going to go places in the future. We spent a lot of weekends
listening to their songs and music. It turned out they were called "Dragon". The rest is history.
I cant help feeling that if people like your music, it's only a matter of time before it gets picked
up by the right company and you are on your way. Anyway Keep music live I always say.

Thanks Steve, i do enjoy doing some writing but there is never enough time for everything, especially music where is constantly changing. However i did renew the domain name (website address) for another 2 years today so i will have to try and get back here a bit more often. Sadly the local pub seems like it is going to close ........ bummer, as it was one of the last 'public bar' venues around the St Kilda area and i am not sure where the next 'home' is ?

Quite sad to think of the venues full of pokies instead of bands, i did invite the St Kilda Live Community to this site but seems they too would rather facebook than forum ????? As i keep telling people, the forums are much more 'static' and are found via google search much quicker. It is very rarely that i discover anything from facebook when doing a seach on google. Social media has a place but so do fourms like this one, guess you can only offer

Regarding your article i will send my email via a private message , regards, Rod

Yes the Sales of my CD "I am what I am" have been steady.
Also the gigs have gone crazy. Anybody that comes up to me at one of my
gigs and says they read about "Hey Hey Molly Meldrum" the song from the Australian Music Forum
always gets a free CD. I see the views for this Blog have gone up to 800 odd. That's really great.
